RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, November 16th, 2023. The meeting will be held at the Agency’s headquarters in Ray Brook, NY. The public is welcome to attend in person or remotely.
Public comment will be available to members of the public who attend the Agency meeting in person as well as those who participate remotely. If you would like the opportunity to make a public comment remotely, please email your name and the phone number used to call into the Board Meeting to AgencyMeeting.PublicComment@apa.ny.gov. Those who sign up for public comment will be limited to three minutes each. Public comment will not be accepted on any agenda items that are before the Board.
On Thursday at 9:00 a.m., the Full Agency will convene for Executive Director Barbara Rice's monthly report, public comment, and other procedural actions.
At 9:30 a.m., the Regulatory Programs Committee will consider approvability for two proposed projects. Carver Sand & Gravel, LLC located in the Town of Ephratah, Fulton County has requested operational modifications to an existing mine which was authorized by a previous APA permit; 2008-0246C.
The Paradox Lake Association submitted an application to use the aquatic herbicide ProcellaCOR EC to control Eurasian watermilfoil within two treatment zones in Paradox Lake (Inlet and Narrows). The project is in the town of Schroon, Essex County.
At 1:00 p.m., the Public Awareness and Communication Committee will convene for a guest lecture from Amy Godine. Amy Godine is a writer, independent scholar, and forty-year contributor to Adirondack Life magazine with a longstanding interest in the social history of the Adirondack region. Her curatorial work for the exhibition, Dreaming of Timbuctoo, inspired and informed her new book, The Black Woods: Pursuing Racial Justice on the Adirondack Frontier. Godine will follow a summary of abolitionist Gerrit Smith's mid-19th-century effort to colonize the Adirondacks with black pioneers with some remarks on the several parallels between the core ideas of the Adirondack Park with goals of environmental distributive justice, suffrage rights, and the interracial community building that were foundational to Timbuctoo.
