RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency is conducting a public comment period to solicit comments regarding a proposed amendment to General Permit 2014G-1A which is currently used to manage terrestrial invasive plant species in or within 100 feet of wetlands. The public is encouraged to review and comment on General Permit 2014G-1B Management of Terrestrial Invasive Species in or Potentially Impacting Wetlands in the Adirondack Park. The amended permit and related documents are available for download from the Agency's homepage.
The Agency has proposed an amendment to include non-plant terrestrial invasive species such as the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. The permit also includes an amendment to further define the areas subject to the permit to include management actions in or potentially impacting wetlands.
Terrestrial invasive species have demonstrated severe negative effects on native wetland systems including loss of habitat, negative changes in hydrology and nutrient cycling, and loss of biodiversity. This general permit will allow certain trained experts to implement management activities to eradicate or reduce population numbers or otherwise control the growth and spread of terrestrial invasive species impacting wetlands within the Adirondack Park.
The Agency will accept public comment on this matter until November 20, 2020.
