APA Accepting Public Comment on Gore Mtn UMP


RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) is accepting public comment for a proposed amendment to the Gore Mountain Ski Center Unit Management Plan. The 2018 Unit Management Plan (UMP) addresses changes to the 2002 and 2005 UMP updates. This amendment would add several new management actions and identifies completed, pending and actions to be modified or abandoned. The APA will accept public comments until March 26, 2018 regarding Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan conformance for the proposed management actions.

Highlights of proposed improvements include new downhill ski trails, widening of some existing trails, a new triple or quad lift from Northwood Lodge to Lower Sunway, an expansion to the NYSEF building, snowmaking improvements and a request for State Land reclassification. The plan also proposes hiking and mountain biking improvements.

Gore Mountain Ski Center is located in the Town of Johnsburg, Warren County and is a New York State - owned facility. It operates under the administrative jurisdiction of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), and is managed by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) through a Memorandum of Understanding with the DEC. The facility is classified as an "Intensive Use Area" under the Adirondack Park State Land Master Plan (APSLMP). An intensive use area is an area where the State provides facilities for intensive forms of outdoor recreation by the public.

ORDA operates a year-round recreational, day-use resort on Gore Mountain which provides opportunities for public use such as competitive and recreational downhill skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and summer scenic gondola rides.
