RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency is currently seeking public comment for a new General Permit to address Silvicultural treatments inside the Park and amendments to an existing General Permit which addresses the management of Aquatic Invasive species. The Public Comment period will run through December 28, 2012.
During the November Agency Meeting, the Board authorized staff to seek public comment for General Permit 2012G1 and General Permit 2008-G1B. These general permits allow for efficient Agency review of eligible projects. The general permits are available for viewing on the Agency's website at www.apa.ny.gov.
General Permit 2012G1 would authorize a simplified Agency approval process for implementing silvicultural treatments that meet jurisdictional clearcutting thresholds for those landowners who have a certified forest management plan.
This general permit was prepared to encourage sustainable forestry practices and good silviculture prescriptions, including shelterwood cuts, which will result in healthy working forests.

General Permit 2008-G1B would authorize the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Lake George Park Commission, Hudson River Black River Regulating District, Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program (APIPP), local municipalities, qualified lake associations, other qualified organizations and certified lake managers to control aquatic invasive species through the use of benthic barriers and hand harvesting techniques.
The removal and/or control of the following aquatic invasive plants species would be authorized: Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum), curlyleaf pondweed (Potamogeton crispus), water chestnut (Trapa natans), yellow floating heart (Nymphoides peltata), European frog-bit (Hydrocharis morsus-ranae), fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana), Asian clam (Corbicula fluminea) and those other species identified by the APA Supervisor, Resource Analysis and Scientific Services (RASS) Division.
The general permit allows for control activities to be authorized on privately owned waterbodies or waterbodies owned by the State of New York and under the jurisdiction of the NYS Office of General Services or NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, including lands classified as Forest Preserve.
