RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting at its Headquarters in Ray Brook, NY on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14, 2012. The meeting will be webcast live. Please use www.apa.ny.gov and click Webcasting from the Contents list to watch the meeting.
The Full Agency will convene at 9:00AM for Executive Director Terry Martinos monthly report. Following the Executive Director's report, Chairwoman Ulrich will review the 2012-13 Agency Board meeting calendar.
At 9:30, the Regulatory Programs Committee will convene to determine approvability for a telecommunication project. Verizon Wireless has proposed a simulated tree tower greater than 40 feet to be located in the Village of Crown Point, Essex County.
The committee will also receive a status report on project 2009-256 which permitted the treatment of Lake Luzerne with the aquatic herbicide Triclopyr (Renovate® OTF) to control Eurasian watermilfoil. The treatment area involved 11 acres at the south end of Lake Luzerne in Warren County.
At 11:00, the Local Government Services Committee will hear an informational presentation on Agency review of amendments to Agency-Approved Local Land Use Programs.
At 1:00, the Park Policy and Planning Committee will be updated on the progress of the Adirondack Partnership Recreation Work Group Initiative. APA Special Assistant for Economic Affairs Dan Kelleher will provide an overview of the Adirondack Partnership's recreation planning effort and discuss the need for recreation planning and sustainable tourism development in the Park. Jim McKenna, Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) and Lake Placid Convention and Visitor's Bureau, will present successful examples of tourism development in the Park and discuss the public and private tools necessary to achieve the economic benefits of this industry.
At 2:00, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation will provide an overview to the State Land Committee on the former Finch Pyrun lands acquisition. The committee will then hear a first reading of the Watsons East Triangle Unit Management Plan Amendment followed by an implementation report for the St. Regis Canoe Area Unit Management Plan.
On Friday morning at 9:00, the Local Government Service Committee will come together to review and possibly approve the Town of Day's Local Land Use Program Amendment. The Town seeks review and approval of a local land use program amendment involving the complete repeal and replacement of the existing zoning law and subdivision law.
At 9:45, the Economic Affairs Committee will convene for a presentation on local woods products manufacturing. Donna Wadsworth, Communications Manager for International Papers Ticonderoga Mill, will discuss operations at their Ticonderoga facility and its impact upon the local economy and the Adirondack forestry industry.
At 10:30, the Public Awareness and Communication Committee will hear an informational presentation from the Wildlife Conservation Society's North American Director. Dr. Jodi Ann Hilty will provide a global perspective on climate change and conservation efforts underway. Dr. Hilty will review ongoing global case studies and detail the relevance of the lessons learned for the Adirondack Park.
At 11:30, the Full Agency will assemble to take action as necessary.
The meeting will conclude with committee reports, public and member comment.
