RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) will hold its regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Thursday, July 14 and Friday July 15, 2011 at APA Headquarters in Ray Brook, NY. The Full Agency will convene on Thursday morning at 9:00 for Executive Director Terry Martino's report where she will brief the Board on monthly accomplishments and recognize the passing of former Board Member Anne LaBastille.
At 9:30, Executive Director Martino and Agency Counsel Banta will review with the Regulatory Programs Committee recommended procedures for Agency deliberation and determination for the Adirondack Club and Resort project 2005-100.
The Regulatory Programs Committee will then consider approving a second renewal for a two-lot subdivision in the Town of Thurman, Warren County and authorizing General Permit 2011G-1 for use with subdivision involving wetlands.
The Committee will hear a discussion of highway utility projects and conclude with a presentation from Associate State Geologist and Director of NY Geological Mapping Program, Dr. Andrew Kozlowski. Dr Kozlowski will brief the committee on the largest landslide in New York history initiated on the side of Porter Mountain, approximately 1 mile northwest of the Hamlet of Keene Valley in Essex County.
At 1:00, the Economic Affairs Committee will assemble for presentations from Marc S. Compeau, Director of Clarkson University's Center for Entrepreneurship followed by Tommy Thomson and Andrew Lewis, the co-founders of Aquatic Invasive Management, LLC.
At 2:45, the Legal Affairs Committee will convene to review a new density bonus for community housing projects. An APA Community Housing Bill was recently passed by both houses of the Legislature and forwarded to the Governor for his consideration. The bill encourages smart growth community housing projects in the vicinity of existing hamlet areas within the Park through special treatment under the APA Act.
At 3:15, the State Land Committee will come to order for a first reading of the Independence River Wild Forest Unit Management Plan Amendment. The committee will then hear a first reading on proposed revisions to area descriptions in the State Land Master Plan. The Agency will accept public comment on the revisions until August 10, 2011. Friday morning at 9:00, the Park Ecology Committee will convene for a presentation from Steve Indrick of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. Mr. Indrick will discuss the federal Natural Resources Conservation Service programs and soils mapping in the Adirondacks.
At 10:00, the newly formed Public Awareness and Communications Committee will assemble for their inaugural committee meeting. The committee will hear a presentation by Kate Fish and David McCahill of the Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) on their Bike the Byways program. They will describe a new website featuring premier road bicycling and preferred mountain rides throughout northern New York.
At 11:00, the Full Agency will assemble to take action as necessary and conclude with committee reports, public and member comment. Meeting materials are available for download from the Agency's website at:
