APA ANNOUNCES LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC MEETING FOR COLD SPRINGS GRANITE COMPANY MINE PROPOSALS

RAY BROOK, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency (APA) will hold an informal legislative public meeting to solicit public comment on Cold Spring Granite Company's mine applications 2009-246 and 2009-279. Cold Spring Granite Company is proposing a mine expansion and a new rock crushing operation at their existing facilities in the Town of Jay, Essex County. The mine sites are located approximately 3.25 miles north of the intersection between Route 86 and Route 9N.

The public meeting will commence on August 23, 2010 at 5:30 pm at the Town of Jay town offices located at 11 School Lane, Ausable Forks, New York.

Activities proposed by the applicant include 24-hour wire sawing operations for several weeks at a time throughout the year, as well as certain blasting and rock breaking. Blasting operations would take place Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Rock crushing would occur in the mine pit on the west side of NYS Route 9N and be limited to time periods in the spring and fall from 8 am to 6 pm. A maximum of up to 80 days per year would be allocated for crushing operations. Rock breaking would occur at both mine locations and also be confined to defined time periods.

The applicant will provide a current overview of the project. Following the informational presentation, members of the public will have the opportunity to make comments regarding the proposed project and how it may positively or negatively impact individuals, properties or the community at large. The APA will also accept written public comments.
