NEWCOMB VISITOR INTERPRETIVE CENTER PRESENTS ERICA WHEELER'S THE SOULFUL LANDSCAPE PROGRAM


NEWCOMB, NY - On Saturday, August 14, the Newcomb Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) is proud to host conservation advocate and award-winning national singer and songwriter Erica Wheeler for two special events open to the general public.

Writers and non-writers of all experiences are invited to attend The Soulful Landscape Workshop with Erica Wheeler on Saturday August 14 from 9:30AM to 12:30PM at the Newcomb VIC. Erica asks participants to join her and explore what place means to them.

The workshop begins with a presentation place-based arts to empower the creative writer within, followed by a series of writing exercises, group discussion, and supportive feedback. Participants will leave with new tools to help find and articulate stories about places and belonging as well as a renewed connection to oneself and the places that hold meaning to them. This is not a song writer workshop.

The Soulful Landscape workshop is sponsored by: The Adirondack Park Institute, Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks, Town of Newcomb, Newcomb Lions Club, and Cloud-Splitter Outfitters. The program is free but space is limited. Pre-registration is recommended. Call the Newcomb VIC at (518)582-2000.

Following her workshop, Erica Wheeler will perform "The Soulful Landscape Concert." The concert will begin at 7:30PM at the Newcomb Central School located at 5535 Route 28N in the Town of Newcomb, NY.

Erica Wheeler's music takes the listener on a journey through the American landscape and the lives lived there. Using song, story and humor, she evokes a sense of place in listeners. Inspirational and thought-provoking, her program renews the connection between people and place.

The concert is sponsored by: The Adirondack Park Institute, Arts Council for the Northern Adirondacks, Town of Newcomb, Newcomb Central School, Newcomb Lions Club, and Cloud-Splitter Outfitters. The concert is free to all. Donations are welcomed.

About Erica Wheeler Educator, speaker, conservation advocate & award-winning singer/songwriter

With her Soulful Landscape programs, Erica combines her career in the creative arts with her lifelong interest in natural history, cultural history and conservation issues. She has offered Soulful Landscape keynotes, workshops and concerts across the country, from the Thoreau Institute (MA) to Yosemite National Park (CA). Her work connecting people and place has been featured in national publications such as Orion, Yes! and Yankee magazines.

A prominent voice on the national singer/songwriter circuit for two decades, Erica Wheeler has released six critically acclaimed CDs. Her songs have charted in the top ten on Billboards Gavin America chart, and she has been a featured guest on syndicated radio programs such as Voice of America and NPRs All Things Considered. Her most recent CD, Good Summer Rain, was sponsored in part by The Trust for Public Land, a national land conservation organization.

Erica started college with field biology in mind, but ultimately, she chose music-or it chose her- going on to become an award-winning singer-songwriter whose work is deeply rooted in the natural world and a sense of place. Armed with an acoustic guitar and her richly expressive voice, Ericas music fits nicely into the folk, bluegrass and Americana categories. She is also well known for her engaging warmth and hilarious stage patter.
