PAUL SMITHS, NY - The Adirondack Park Agency Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) at Paul Smiths will host the Adirondack Wildlife Festival from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 7. The annual event will feature children's activities, live music, wildlife exhibits, food, trail walks and live animal demonstrations.
The day starts with live animal programs. Beth Bidwell, Executive Director of the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York, will present reptiles, amphibians and a variety of Adirondack raptors. Providing informative and exciting programs to groups of all ages, she will give live demonstrations from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Singer/songwriter Mark Rust of Woodstock, New York will be the featured musical act. His performances showcase an impressive array of instruments, including fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer and banjo. From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., he will welcome visitors with hammered dulcimer music at the VIC entrance.
At 12:00 noon, Mr. Rust will give a show for kids titled My Family's Musical Traditions which will be followed by a How to Play the Spoons workshop at 12:30 p.m. These performances will take place in the Music Tent near the Butterfly House. From 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., Mr. Rust will wrap up with a show titled Our Families Came to Sing.
This year, The Lodge on Lake Clear will provide a cook-out under the Pavilion. Lunch will be available for purchase from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
VIC staff and volunteers will lead children's activities from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Sunspace in the main VIC building. Guided trail walks will be held at 10:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.
Also this year, Mac's Canoe Livery will offer guided canoe paddles. You can register and pay for this program at the VIC's front desk on the day of the festival.
Entrance to the Wildlife Festival at the Paul Smiths VIC is free and open to the public. The event will be held rain or shine and is being sponsored by the Adirondack Park Agency and the Adirondack Park Institute.
