PAUL SMITHS, NY - On Saturday, April 24, in celebration of Earth Day, the Visitor Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths invites the public to two programs that show how we live as part of the natural world. At 10:00 a.m., VIC staff at Paul Smiths will join with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for a visit to the Lake Clear Fish Hatchery. This hour long tour, led by hatchery manager Ed Grant, will provide the public with a close-up look at how the DEC works to conserve and enhance Adirondack fisheries. Registration is not required for the program which will begin at the fish hatchery along NYS Route 30 (Fish Hatchery Road) in Lake Clear. Call the VIC at 518-327-3000 for directions.
Later in the day, the public is invited to visit the Paul Smiths VIC for a walk on the trails and to view this week's film offering, a story of a red-tailed hawk that set up residence in New York's Central Park. Dubbed "Pale Male", the bird became an instant celebrity and captivated the hearts of all Metro New Yorkers. The film will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will last about an hour.
