Night Walk on Snowshoes and Snow Shelter Workshop at Paul Smiths Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC)

PAUL SMITHS, NY - As the days lengthen and winter slowly looses its grip on the Adirondacks, visit the Adirondack Park Agency's Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) at Paul Smiths for two late season favorites.

On Friday evening, February 26, the VIC will once again host a night walk on snowshoes. This always popular event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and finish around a campfire at 8:00 p.m. On the walk with a naturalist, you'll experience the sights and sounds of the winter woods at night and maybe even hear a coyote howl. Snowshoes will be provided and pre-registration is required. The program is free thanks to the Adirondack Park Institute, the "friends group" for the VIC. On Saturday, February 27, at 1:00 p.m., kids and adults can have fun learning a possibly life saving technique of turning a snow bank into a cozy cave. "This has been our best attended end-of-winter program since it débuted in 1996," said VIC director, Mike Brennan. "It's amazing what the kids come up with for designs and how readily they snuggle into their shelters." Dress appropriately for the day and bring a shovel. Pre-registration is required and this program is also free.

The Paul Smiths VIC is located 12 miles north of Saranac Lake on Route 30. For more information on VIC programming, call (518) 327-3000 or log on to www.adkvic.org.
